If you’ve made the leap to becoming Vegetarian, your already half way there! Becoming a vegan is an awesome lifestyle to live, and if your unsure then just dedicate two weeks to trying it, see how it makes you feel. Besides the obvious reason of not wanting to eat animals, being vegan can also make your body feel amazing. Meats today, especially in the supermarket are super processed, and can tend to make your body feel icky. Cutting out dairy, meats and other animal products can speed up your metabolism and make it easier for you to digest food.
Here are some tips and tricks to becoming a vegan!
The First thing to do is switch out your milk. I was guilty of using whole milk right up until I became vegan. You are not going to like all the different milk alternatives out there, so try some different ones out and pick your favorite. My favorite is Almond milk, I use it in my coffee, my cereal, smoothies etc. this wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. One of my favorite drinks is the “Chocolate Almond Milk”, its sweet and taste just like regular chocolate milk if not better. Traditionally bread is made from yeast, water, salt and flour making it vegan. However you have to be careful, some breads on the market today are made with milk products or eggs. If your trying to become vegan, you need to get into the habit of reading labels for the ingredient list. I prefer to make my own bread, but I know a lot of us are to busy for that. If you’re worried that some breads might not be vegan, take to the internet, there are plenty of articles and such that’ll go through grocery store breads for you and tell you what you can and can’t have! My favorite morning snack is homemade vegan bread with cashew butter and blueberries on top. The carbs in the morning keep me fueled and the cashew butter is just the right amount of sweetness for the morning.

Everyone I know has a sweet tooth, and loves ice cream, this doesn’t have to change just because you’re a vegan! Now a days there are a bunch of vegan ice cream brands on the market, and you can find more then one at your local grocery store. Some of my favorites are “Ben and Jerry’s: Non Dairy Frozen Desserts”, these come in a bunch of different flavors. Also some of the “Halo Top” ice creams are vegan, and those are by far my favorite! Another awesome dessert idea I make often, is “BANANA NICE CREAM”, which is just frozen bananas that you mix with almond milk to create a milk shake type of consistency, its a perfect alternative to ice cream!
I was never a big meat eater to begin with, but I know most people are. Which means this will be one, if not your biggest struggle while going vegan. But don’t worry we will get through it! Veggie burgers are a great source of protein, eat it with some vegan bread, lettuce, tomato, onion and your favorite vegan dressing and you’ll never feel like your lacking protein. One of my favorites is my take on a Taco Salad, using lettuce, tomato onion, corn, beans, salsa, and chopped up veggie burgers, with some veggie corn chips. This is a meal, that will leave you satisfied for a while. There are absolutely meat alternatives that you can try, but sticking with the basics is probably the best idea for stating out. Things like tofu, veggie paddy’s, beans, nuts and lots of veggies!
When it comes to snacking on the go, or snacking throughout the day there are plenty of Vegan options! You can pick up single serving packets of nuts, fruit, dried fruit, or granola packets. There are also lots of vegan protein bars as well as granola bars, again just make sure to read the ingredient list on the box. One of my favorites is natural popcorn, with vegan butter on top, I put this in a few plastic baggies, and grab one whenever I need a snack.
All in all, going vegan is a fantastic lifestyle change I think everyone should try at-least once in their life!
