With the weather getting colder, and allergy season upon us, we are bound to pick up a small cold at some point (at least I know I am). Here are my must haves for a sick day in!

First thing is to get yourself into some comfy clothes, when you are sick you need to give your body rest, to rejuvenate. The second thing is to drink a tall glass of warm Emergen-c, cold and flu mixture. Now if you don’t know what that is, Emergen-c is an over the counter packet of cold and flu medicine you mix into a drink. You are suppose to drink it before you even get sick, but you should also drink it when you are sick to prevent the cold from lasting a long time. Before you eat or drink anything else, make the mixture and enjoy it in bed!

I pretty sure these are everyones go to for a sick day. Normally I don’t drink soda’s, but when you are sick, the sugar in the ginger ale, can give you that little pick me up you so desperately need. I don’t eat meat, so instead of chicken soup I choose to eat a vegetable soup, or minestrone. I know your stomach can get icky when you have a cold, this is from all the mucous going down your throat and into your stomach, soup and crackers will almost always settle your tummy!

One of my favorite products to use when I am sick is the Vicks Vapor Rub. If you have ever used Icy Hot for a sore muscle this is a similar feeling to the Vicks rub. You rub a pea size amount onto your chest, to loosen up the mucous. The smell of it also opens up your sinus cavities to help everything flow! Lip Balm is a must have for me, because my lips get so darn dry. When I am sick I am constantly blowing my nose, and wiping at my upper lip area, and it can tend to get very dry. A thick lip balm will prevent further dryness and cracking.

Make sure on your sick day in bed you have plenty of things to keep you entertained. Your probably gonna wanna sleep, but when you wake up, you’ll want things to keep you busy. Things like books, magazines, movies and tv shows will keep you rested but also make time go by. Another item I love for when I am sick is a heating pad. If you have a fever obviously stay away from this idea, but when you have a normal cold your body can tend to get sore. The heating pad will loosen up the muscles and make you feel more comfortable.
