The first thing you can do for yourself, to help with your sleeping habit, is to stop your afternoon coffee. Most of us coffee lovers, will feel that lull in the middle of the day, when our morning coffee is wearing off and were feeling sleepy. Avoid stoping off for coffee in the mid afternoon, and also avoid any caffeinated teas or sodas. Having that coffee around 3 or 4 o’clock means you won’t be able to wind down or be fully decaffeinated till around 8 or 8:30 at night which is way too late! Getting into the habit of fueling your body with things other than coffee is a huge way to help your physical health, and you’ll find it’ll be easier to sleep at night!

The blue light from many electronic devices tricks your mind into thinking its day time, which keeps your mind awake and alert. Turning off the gadgets an hour before you need to sleep will help your mind wind down and relax. I always recommended reading a book before bed, this will give your mind time to wind down from a hectic day. It is also easier on the eyes to look at a book than a bright electronic screen.

The warmth from a shower will help relax your muscles and put your body into a state of ease. If you have a bath tub, let your body soak in the warm water, while you close your eyes and wind down. I know it sounds silly, but if you only have a shower, you can actually sit in the shower and let the water hit you, relaxing your muscles and mind. If you suffer from allergies taking a warm to hot shower will help you get all the mucus up before bed so your not waking up in the middle of the night to blow your nose!

Food is fuel, we hear this all the time. Which means if you snack at night, your body is getting fueled and working to digest the food. When your body is working like that, your gonna find it extremely hard to wind down and get the sleep you need. Cut the snacking and eating 3hrs before bed time.
This one is simple enough, use up your energy exercising, so when you lay your head on the pillow you are out like a light. If you find you can’t sleep at night, get yourself out for a walk after dinner, don’t stop until your tired. Sometimes when your brain won’t turn off the best thin you can do for yourself is stop forcing yourself to try and sleep, but instead go for a walk.

Getting yourself on a schedule is one of the best suggestions I can make. Going to bed around the same time every night and waking up around the same time everyday will help with you seep tremendously better! You’ll find that when it gets close to bedtime your body and mind will start to feel tired and sleepy, this is because your body is on a schedule and knows when bedtime is. If you got bed different times every night or stay up all night this can reck havoc on your body and mind, causing eating problems, acne, and body aches!
