Hey there my lovelies! Today we are going to be talking about different ways to give back during the holiday season. Society tends to get wrapped up in the inauthentic part of the holiday season ie presents, money, gifts. We often forget how lucky we are to simply have food on the table and family who loves us. There are those all over the country who can’t afford presents, or to go home for the holidays, or even food. This is the time of year to be thankful for all that you have and give back to those in need!
Anytime you go to a store during the holiday season you will almost always see a bin to donate to Toys-4-Tots. This is a nation wide organization started by the Marine Corps to help give toys to kids who’s parents can’t afford them. This is an awesome organization to get behind during this time of year. The toys go to children of all ages from infants to young teens. It can be very hard on parents who are simply struggling to get by, by donating a toy you can help relieve some guilt and pressure. You do not need to donate a huge expensive toy, simply purchase something within your budget to be donated!

This holiday season volunteer at a soup kitchen to help feed the homeless in your area. Times like Thanksgiving, and Christmas, are when the homeless can’t be with their family, and can’t afford to feed themselves. Simply by donating your time, even if its only an hour can help tremendously. It can take some of the pressure off of the staff and allow them more time to cook for the shelter! Don’t feel weird about going into some shelters and asking if they need help, they are never going to scorn you for offering to volunteer. This is also a feel good task, at the end of your volunteer time your heart will be warmed. You took action to help those in need!

We often forget that people aren’t the only ones that can be alone during the holiday season. Those animals waiting to be adopted will spend the holidays be themselves. Donating toys, food, grooming things, or even your time can help the shelters tremendously. Animals especially dogs and cats are super empathetic and can often feel a hundred times better when they receive attention and love. If you can’t find it in your budget to donate food or toys, then donate your time. Taking some time out of your day to walk , play and feed the animals will do wonders for both them and you!

This is something I participate in every holiday season. Those suffering from depression can often feel very alone, and overwhelmed during this time of year. Suicide rates sky rocket during Thanksgiving and Christmas time. Working a suicide hotline will help those thinking about taking their own life. You’ll be able to offer advice, love, and attention to those in need! This is a free way to give back, all you need is access to a computer with reliable internet. Suicide Hotlines will always accept more volunteers, so don’t be afraid to ask!

This is an awesome way to give back during the holidays. Donating clothes, make-up, things to keep the woman groomed, handbags, etc will lift their spirits tremendously! Sometimes women in shelter have been abused by their husbands, or those close to them and have been made to feel ugly and alone. By donating items or even your time you can make them feel special and less alone. Take some time to volunteer, listen to their stories, do their make-up or hair, or simply be someone they can lean on. It’ll warm your heart as well as theirs!

Imagine not being able to be with your family and loved ones because your protecting our country. It is an extremely hard time of year for solider’s, especially those who are over sea’s, or not able to be home. Adopt a solider and send care packages and letters. Let them know their service isn;t going unnoticed. Make them feel less alone during this time of year by sending funny pictures, candy, socks, puzzles and other things to keep them busy. Let them know someone is thinking about them during this time of year. Trust me it will be much appreciated!
No matter how you give back this holiday season, the important thing is to take action. Even the little things don’t go unnoticed! Have a safe and healthy holiday season!
