Hey there my lovelies! With the winter in full swing, and long work hours making us exhausted, I have some tips and tricks on how to unwind after a long day. It’s important for your mental health to give yourself time to relax and not always be on the go. Giving yourself time to unwind will not only help you sleep, but it’ll help you feel less stressed. Lets get started 🙂

One of my favorite ways to unwind at night is to put on my Spotify playlist and just listen to my favorite songs. If you still have housework to get done, let your playlist shuffle and finish up the things you need to get done. Music is gonna help you not think about the day you just had, and focus on what you’re doing at that moment. You can also play soft chill music and sit crosslegged on the floor and take a minute to breathe. Taking deep breaths is a huge way to reduce stress. Playing music that isn’t to loud or to fast paced can allow you to let your mind and body unwind.

The first thing I always do when I get home from work is change into some comfy clothes. If you stay in your work clothes well after you get home, it’ll be harder for you to get comfortable and unwind. Put on your favorite sweats and t-shirt, and put the long work day behind you.

With the weather being so darn cold, it can cause your muscles to tense up and your bones to feel sore. Allowing yourself a long hot shower or bath will help tremendously with relaxing your muscles and making you feel a little less sore. Hot showers will also clear out your chest and sinuses making it easier to take deep breaths. If you don’t have a bath tub, you can always sit on the shower floor and let the warm water run over your body. If you work outside or do manual labor this is going to be so helpful for you. You’ll get out of the shower feeling more relaxed and ready for bed.

Being on your phone or computer well into the night can make it almost impossible to unwind and fall asleep. The lights on the screen will keep your mind alert and cause your eyes to have to focus. For this reason it’s important to stay off electronics especially if you’re trying to sleep. Instead you could read, or do an something that soothes your mind like journaling, drawing, knitting and so on. You’ll find yourself relaxing and drifting off because you’re not forcing your mind to stay awake and alert.

This is a huge trick to help you unwind, and not feel so stressed. You just did a full work day, there is no reason you should have to bring your work home with you. If there are emails, or other work you need to get done, plan out a time the next morning to work on it. If you get home from work and continue to do work you’re gonna find yourself staying up way to late, and it’ll be impossible to unwind. As soon as you get home, put your work away and focus on you, and the things you need to do to clear your head.

Do your best to create a peaceful environment that won’t make you feel overwhelmed. Do the dishes and clean up so your not stressed out about the clutter. Dim the lights, you can often find yourself feeling alert and awake if the lights are to bright. Light a candle, nothing to strong, something soothing to help you unwind. If your surroundings are overwhelming you, you will have a very hard time trying to relax and sleep.
